Optical Network
The AARNet Optical Network is high capacity optical network
building using industry standards optical transmission DWDM technology.
Utilising the NextGen Networks dark fiber network AARNet
now has a high capacity network into Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide.
AARNet has currently lit 20Gbit/s of capacity on this network.

Current Status
The AARNet Optical Network has been in operation in its
current form since Q1 2006 and with over 40 circuits sold to date and more

About Optical Networks
The AARNet Optical Network provides end users access to high
capacity bandwidth and affordable prices. Services are delivered as point to
point Gigabit Ethernet with a no rate limiting.
This enables AARNet to deliver a product that for all
intensive purposes looks like a long fiber patch cord to your network.
At the heart of the network is a DWDM solution provided by
Cisco Systems. The ONS 15454 MSTT provides the underlying optical transmission
including amplification and multiplexing.
