A new record set for eduroam with 8.4 billion authentications

Eduroam was used over 8.4 billion times in 2024 as secure, roaming Wi-Fi network continues to grow around the world.

The numbers are in and after a record of 7.5 billion authentications in 2023, eduroam has grown even further to reach over 8,400,000,000 (8.4 billion!) national and international authentications across 100 countries in 2024, an impressive 12% increase from the previous year.

Initiatives increasing eduroam access off-campus such as in South Africa, Uganda, and Bangladesh have had a major impact in supporting global roaming and eduroam is becoming a vital component of student access services around the world.


In Australia, eduroam authentications surpassed 5.2 million in 2024, increasing by 15% over 2023.

Eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, worldwide roaming Wi-Fi network developed for the international research and education community. Academics, staff, students, and researchers can use their institutional credentials to access eduroam in thousands of locations in over 100 countries worldwide, from campuses to coffee shops.
