AARNet CEO Chris Hancock AM is retiring

AARNet (Australia’s Academic and Research Network) has announced that Chris Hancock AM, Chief Executive Officer, will retire at the end of June 2025.

Sydney, Australia – October 27, 2024 – AARNet (Australia’s Academic and Research Network) has announced that Chris Hancock AM, Chief Executive Officer, will retire at the end of June 2025.

Chris Hancock has been at the helm of AARNet since 2004, leading the organisation through significant growth and transformation. Under his leadership, AARNet has expanded its national and international network infrastructure, enhanced its service offerings to include cyber security and collaboration services, and strengthened its position as a critical enabler of research and education in Australia.

Reflecting on his tenure, Hancock said, “It has been an incredible journey leading AARNet for the past two decades. I am immensely proud of what we have achieved, and I am confident that AARNet will continue to thrive and innovate in the years to come.”

The AARNet Board has commenced a comprehensive search for a new CEO to ensure a smooth transition. In the meantime, Chris will work closely with the leadership team to maintain continuity and sustained momentum in delivering AARNet’s mission.
