This week (10-14 October, 2016) is the Australian Government’s Stay Smart Online Week , an annual reminder that cyber safety isn’t just a concern for security departments, coinciding with Cyber Security Awareness Month in the United States. All of us who use the internet can take small but important measures to protect ourselves and our data.
Cyber security is about more than updating anti-virus software (although, it’s a good place to start). Individuals—in particular young people—can unknowingly share information that puts them at risk of identity theft, or inadvertently expose themselves to harmful information or cyber-bullying.
Staying safe online is much easier when the risks—and how to avoid them—are understood. The good news is that there is a great range of resources available to help teach cyber security in an engaging way.
