Navigating Digital Safety: Exploring Security and Trust in Online Spaces for Young Australians

27 November | Canberra and Online

An exploration of strategies for enhancing online safety, security, and trust for young Australians in digital spaces.

Join us for the final event of a three-part series on privacy, security, and online safety for young people in Australia, hosted by the Future of Privacy Forum (FPF), AARNet and ASPI. This is a valuable opportunity to learn from meaningful discussions with industry leaders and government representatives, helping to shape the future of online safety and data privacy for children.

This in-person and live streamed event will focus on what it means to be secure online, and the ways that secure online spaces can provide an opportunity for young people to learn more about the world, exercise creativity, and discover more about themselves.

Our expert panel will discuss personal and corporate internet security, how that security ties into notions of privacy and safety, and the challenges that security technologies can pose to law enforcement investigations.

Panellists will also comment on policies that governments are proposing to regulate data, including updates to the Privacy Act, plans to authenticate all internet users, and age verification for some products or services, and the potential impact on trust and security.

  • Moderator: Amie Stepanovich, Future of Privacy Forum
  • Dr Huon Curtis, Digital Resilience
  • Ben Au, Snap Inc.
  • Mandy Ross, Monash University
  • Dr John Coyne, Australian Strategic Policy Institute

We look forward to having you join us at this event to engage in meaningful discussions on these key topics.
